I have been considering using a relay to automatically switch over. I am using a toggle switch to manually switch between mains and batter when the power fails.

but as long as you create a backup of your PS3 hard drive, you'll be set to tinker with it as you see fit.I am currently running a system where I have 12v mains and 12v battery as power sources. You'd have issues getting Linux to run, of course - I've heard there are issues with OtherOS not working right, you not being able to boot to the XMB anymore, etc.

In fact, I think that'd be a much better way than the "PS3 to PS2 to Mod to SNES" method that's described here. Or even if you're using Linux on your PS3. Playing it (and all your other old-school games) would be much, much easier on your PC. I wouldn't recommend using it unless you were ABSOLUTELY certain you wanted to play SNES games on your PS3. The entire process, I've found, is an extremely convoluted one, though. My external hard drive didn't fare much better, either (the fact that it was partitioned into two differently-formatted partitions probably didn't help, either). I had the exact same issue with three different flash drives. It's strange how that works, but it is what it is. It's not so much that your external HDD can't run the program as it is that the program can't recognize your external HDD. Ill appreciate any type of advice!! THANKS!
